Polyphemus

Independent Record Label

The Polyphemus Moth, Antheraea polyphemus (Cramer), is one of our largest and most beautiful silk moths. It is named after Polyphemus, the giant cyclops from Greek mythology who had a single large, round, eye in the middle of his forehead (Himmelman 2002). The name is because of the large eyespots in the middle of the hind wings.

Polyphemus, a Beautiful Moth

Keeping it "in the family" this new record label offers a label that takes all the hassel and paperwork away from you, so that you can concentrate on making music.

We Provide:

ISRC

ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the globally recognized standard numbering system for audio and music video recordings. It comprises a 12-digit alphanumeric code and functions as a universal identification number for each sound recording.

ISRC codes are primarily used to identify and catalog individual songs (tracks) on an album. The ISRC allows you to get paid for digital music sales by ensuring that your royalties are tracked properly. ISRC codes are necessary to sell your individual tracks via iTunes and other online music distributors. They are also required for any songs that you plan to offer for streaming on Spotify and other streaming services.

Similarly, you need to get ISRC codes in order to have your songs participate in the Billboard charts. In order to have a chance at making the Billboard music charts, your release must be registered with Nielsen SoundScan using your ISRC codes for the individual tracks. If you do not register then your sales figures are not counted, and you remain invisible to the system.

Do I need an ISRC Code for my album or a UPC code? The retailers, online distributors, and the Billboard Charts (Nielsen SoundScan) set forth these requirements:

You need ISRC codes for each track of your album. However, the album itself requires a UPC code. In fact, if you plan to sell your album as a digital download AND as a physical audio CD then you need 2 UPC codes: one for the digital album download and a second one for the physical audio CD. This is the only way that performance on your individual songs can be tracked versus sales of the physical audio CD versus downloads of the complete digital album.

What about Singles?

For singles, you definitely need an ISRC code for the track. It is highly recommended that you also get a UPC code for singles because a UPC code is required on a single by:

  • iTunes
  • Nielsen SoundScan to participate in the Billboard Charts
  • Retailers, if you plan to release the single as a physical CD
  • Even some of the aggregators, streaming sites, and download sites

What is embedding and why do I need it?

The process of embedding is the entry of the ISRC code into the metadata of your file. Below are some examples to illustrate what that means:

You are riding in your car and the artist and title of a song is being displayed on the stereo or MP3 player.
Playing a song or video on your computer or phone and the cover picture of the artist is displayed along with a title and other information.

Have you ever wondered where that information comes from?

There are three possibilities of encoding that information. We can help you with achieving all of them:

  1. Just the ISRC code is embedded. This allows the information to be pulled from online databases which your Internet-connected devices access.
  2. All of the information is embedded directly in the file. (Yes, we can even embed the cover images.) This allows devices that are not connected to the Internet, like car stereos, MP3 players, CD players, etc. to display the information about your song.
  3. The ISRC plus all of the information is embedded in the file. This permits offline devices to display the information stored and online devices to have the option to display the stored information OR to pull the most current information from online databases.

Also, have you wondered how the ISRC code gets connected to the audio/video file when you upload it for sale, and how sales and royalties are tracked?

Embedding ISRC codes helps those who carry your work identify your songs and videos more easily. This aids them in tracking revenues, plays, etc. It is also beginning to be required in some cases. Embedding can help prevent song or video misidentification as well. In addition, if you ever lose your ISRC code, you will be able to retrieve it from your file if needed.

Let our professionals handle your ISRC embedding for you!
